Patient De-Identifier Utility
The Patient De-Identifier (DEID) utility replaces identifiable patient data in a NextGen Healthcare database with realistic but false computer-generated values. The resulting database preserves all existing family relationships, visit information and medical conditions. A de-identified database can be safely used for conversion testing, user training, and other purposes without risking patient confidentiality.
NOTE:
DEID requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1, which means that the framework must be installed on any machine before you install DEID on that machine. Installing the framework will require a reboot. If you are installing on a workstation, this is likely not a problem. If you are installing on a server, you will need to inform your IT Group or System Administrator (if you have such a group in your organization) as they will need to coordinate the installation and reboot with other users of the server. Generally this means waiting until "non-working hours" to perform the update.

- DEID now obfuscates the XML data fragment stored in hie_document, which is used to present data for the Continuity of Care Document (C-CDA), Referral Cover Letter, and perhaps other documents. The XML fragment is now replaced with a generic XML fragment that contains this message: This document has been obfuscated by DEID
- Correction in code allowing license files to be deleted on Terminal Sessions.
- Updates to the connection library to resolve issues with deleting and de-identifying patient records. Sometimes a database connection would reset itself and cause the process to fail.
- DEID calls XHEO Licensing to delete the license file it writes to disk, allowing an app to be re-licensed or a machine to be unlicensed. It does so in a VM-compatible way.
- Clients with large EHR databases (3TB and larger) have reported that the DELETE feature was failing. Portions of the work (e.g. Choosing Patients to KEEP, IGNORE, and DELETE) are performed by DEID, while the "heavy lifting" (actually deleting Patients or updating Patient Data) is performed by the SQL Server. We have changed the way the DEID transmits the list of Patients to DELETE and IGNORE to the SQL Server so that this will no longer cause any issues, regardless of database size.
- SQL Server supports the use of the SCHEMA NAME to aid in organizing and controlling/restricting access to TABLES. DEID now uses Schema Name when disabling and enabling INDEXES and TRIGGERS on TABLES. Previously, it was assuming all schemas are DBO.
- Once a Server and Database are selected, certain options are now selected by default. These include: Under EMPLOYER Settings: De-identify Employers Under CONCEALMENT Options: Delete Alerts Under SPACE RECOVERY Options: Clear the Significant Events Log, Clear the Old EPM Merge Log, Clear the Person Merge Log Under SQL SERVER CONTROL Options: Change Database Backup Model to SIMPLE...
- An error allowed both COMPLETE and PARTIAL database flags to be set for a database. This was preventing some valid databases from being selectable.
- Updated MAP file for NextGen EHR 5.9.x
- When loading a saved profile, the PROD database became selectable from the database list. This has been corrected. All Users should upgrade to this version immediately.
- Internal updates to support framework changes from Microsoft. Prevents controls on windows from resizing themselves unexpectedly.
- Updates to make DEID compatible with NextGen database v5.9
